Pipeline hygiene

Pipeline hygiene is the ongoing enforcement that open opportunity records reflect current reality, dates, amounts, stages and next steps included.

Hygiene is usually framed as a discipline problem and solved with reminders. It is more usefully framed as a system property: which fields are required at which transition, what happens automatically to a record with no activity for N days, and whether close-date changes are recorded as events rather than silent overwrites.

The value of hygiene is entirely downstream. Coverage, forecast, win rate and cycle time are all computed from the same records; each hygiene defect propagates into all four simultaneously.

Where it breaks

Close dates are bulk-pushed to the next quarter with no slip event recorded, so cycle-time analysis is impossible.
